Flat head V8s in my hood had temp problems due to the routing of the exhaust gasses through the block. Had block cracks between the valves and or exhaust valve to cylinder...don't remember which it was but an auto repair shop in Houston specialized in fixing that crack and had a string of customer's cars going around the block waiting for their turn.
