Diode is used on the 3-WIRE ALT. The 10SI 1-Wire ALT is less wires, less headaches. Only need to add an external inline 1-OHM resistor to coil circuit if using a 6V Coil. Best to swap out to a verified 12V Coil and eliminate any extra resistor.
NOTE: RS was RADIO SHACK, NLA, out of business. Diode is industry standard, available at any electronics supplier.
