I just quickly pull out of the window when it's done, let it tie as I'm driving to a good spot to dump it, dump it, then close the gate an tension the belts as I'm heading back to he windrow. You get good at finding spots and timing it so you're ready to go right when you get back to the windrow. I now do that even on our few flat fields: It takes no more time than it would just sitting there while it ties, and saves you from having to shift. You can also often drop you bales side-by-side so they're clustered together for picking up.
