I've seen rims/wheels that I used dish soap on in the past and it rusts the steel. I use that tire mounting lube from Murphy's. I just gob it on the crack between the bead on the tire and rim/wheel to seat beads. I also wipe off the excess as they come out. Been using the same pail for about 5 years now and still is over half full. Works slick as snot for mounting. Mounted some big tires like 18-38's and some 13-24's on combine with it along with car tires and such also. I think I paid 11.00 for an 8 pound pail of it. If just dried up add water and it would probably rehydrate to work.
