It ends up being beetle traps are only good for attracting more and more beetles. I used them for a few years, and they only seemed to grow in population. After doing some research I found a different way to reduce populations. I have only used St. Gabriel Organics brand Milky Spore Japanese Beetle & Grub Control last year and have noticed a lot less beetles this year. I bought another bag this year I need to apply. I still have to spray using Bonide. A couple years ago they were terrible in my potatoes, pole beans, red raspberries, and blackberries. They seem to go after smart weeds first, so planting the away from affected plants might work (not my plan!). You are supposed to pick them off and put them in soapy water, I just squish them when I only find a few. Good luck! Farm & Fleet is the cheapest place to buy I have found. Rotation and using fresh seed potatoes have worked the best for diseases.
