Another horror story involving kids and tractors. I am so sad. When my son and daughter were children, they often visited their grandparents (my parents) on the family farm. My father wanted to give them rides on his John Deere with an enclosed cab. I refused to allow it. He never understood or agreed, and, yes, I was admittedly paranoid, but I have never regretted my firm decision.
(Re paranoid: I was, at the time, a newspaper reporter and had to cover the run-over death of my neighbor's visiting 6-year-old child who fell from a tractor while getting a ride. So call me paranoid, but covering a tragic event like that does tend to influence one's view of kids on tractor rides.)
