Dad talked about the Fordson the neighbor owned coming onto farm as a favor. This may have been in the late 20's. It would have been the first tractor, not counting threshing ring tractors. I think there were some healthy mortgage pymts on the family farm. The neighbor impressed them with the Fordson plowing. Still they felt could not afford one. Rough times set in 1929. They apparently kept farming with horses. A steel wheel Deere appeared on the farm right around the first introduction maybe 1933- 1935. For years after and even after the War they always kept horses in the barn just in case. They did not trust the tractor to not breakdown so kept horses as back up. I think they were also used to lift hay in to the barn.
