Given that BH creator Paul Henning grew up in 1920's Arkansas I would bet on animal power. He admitted that his approach was very anachronistic in his shows including Green Acres. I question whether he knew much about commercial farming versus subsistence farming so it was probable Jed mostly raised for his family and had a little bit to sell to have money for the general store. Probably cut wheat by hand and had a thresher come in to finish the wheat. Hay would have been loose going into a mow in the barn. Used a wheel barrow to take any manure to the edge of the field.
