1978 was the last year I was involved in stock car racing. The Late Models were dying out. Back when we ran the Chevelles, 40 or 50 cars would show up for a show. Being in the top 10 in the point standings meant something. By 1977 or 78 no more than 20 cars would show up for a show, and all you had to do was show up for every show and you were in the top 10 in points. Several previously popular tracks closed because of noise issues and civilization progression, and we called it quits.
I then got in on a sprint car with a cousin, Bud, for several years. Hed been an open wheel racer, having once owned and driven a Super Modified, although hed hired out to drive an occasional stock car while I was in stocks.
There are some similarities, but basically sprints are a whole different ball game from stock cars.
