You are going to have to figure out what all is involved in activating the series-parallel switch when the key is turned to start or the start pushbutton is activated (however the tractor is setup).
Check the connections at both batteries and that they are fully charged and in good condition.
Look the electrical system over for a burnt or broken wire, and check any fuses or circuit breakers that it may have involved in the starting circuit. There MAY even be a smaller relay between the start switch and the series-parallel switch.
