I have a Craftsman hand held with a flex cable about 2 ft long.
The screen is tiny, only about 2 in square. It's handy when you need it as it's self contained, but the small screen is a negative. It is also hard to get orientated as to which way is up, down, or what you're seeing.
Every situation is different, so hard to say what is the best. I think a camera that works with a laptop or even a phone would be better.
