Flexable shaft camera

Anyone used a flexible shaft camera? I was thinking of getting one. I can think of several uses as I set here now. I see them for very little money, and a lot. I guess you get what you pay for. Any thoughts? Stan

I have one and it is really great. Endoscope. 4 meter lead, built in LED illumination, 6.5mm diameter, Waterproof, and less than $45. Type C USB connection to a smart phone. Takes stills and Movies with great resolution.. Jim

I have a Ridgid camera and its a joke compared to the flexible shaft one I purchased from Amazon. The flex one has a better picture. I have used it with both phone and iPad. The large view on the iPad is great.

My brother has one for working on safes(lots of gun safes this time of year).Drill a hole to make sure you do not hit that relocker.

I have a cheapie flex camera you can look inside the cylinder via the spark plug hole.

I'm not impressed with the HF camera.
Very limited field of view.

I have a Craftsman hand held with a flex cable about 2 ft long.

The screen is tiny, only about 2 in square. It's handy when you need it as it's self contained, but the small screen is a negative. It is also hard to get orientated as to which way is up, down, or what you're seeing.

Every situation is different, so hard to say what is the best. I think a camera that works with a laptop or even a phone would be better.

I have one that plugs into my iPhone. Works awesome and was only about $50 off Amazon. The most important spec is the focal length. Unless it has a very small focal length it wont be useful for small spaces such as down a spark plug hole into a cylinder.

(quoted from post at 22:00:56 11/12/22) I have a Depstech from Amazon. It has its uses. Especially looking down cylinders.

Depspatch from amazon here too.
I use it often to run down tortoise burrows out of curiousity.
Have found snakes and armadillos living with the tortoise.
The snakes and armadillos come flying out when the one eyed led light comes towards them.

The tortoise actually attacks and chomps down on the camera.
Looks like a dinasour coming at you thru the screen.
But not damage to he camera. Sometimes you have to wait a few minutes before you can retreat.

I have a few and they're great, each one has had higher resolution and smaller camera diameter.

The latest is HD and 3.9mm camera which is small enough to fit through a diesel glow plug hole. Around $50 on scamazon.

They are also handy for machining with geriatric eyes, you can put the camera on a mag base indicator mount and get it in close to the cutter area to see what you can no longer readily focus on. Epoxy magnets to the back of the display unit and you can stick it on the machine in a convenient location as well.

I recommend sticking with the units that have their own display so you aren't tying up your vastly more expensive phone and risking damaging it, nor installing apps of questionable origin on it.

I got a USB one on Ebay, about $10, with a semi-flexible shaft. I use it with an old Microsoft surface (notebook) for a real big picture. Use it to do inspections on my airplane.

Got one with a 5ft lead. Took about 10 minutes to set up. I see very good resolution video on my phone. Came with a magnet, hook and a mirror that attach to the lense. Records video if you like. Works like a charm. Less than $50.

Do you have a name and model number for it? Where you purchased it? Thanks, Keith
