Rip: I am from Co. and am looking for a rim for an AC wd 45 see post in tractor talk, what model is this tractor? Do you know of any salvage yards closer than Pennsylvania?
I grew up in a garage, and my dad swore the best way to fix a leaking gas tank was to fill the tank plumb full and then weld it. I watched him do it several times. he said don't fiddle around, just weld it and then put the fire on the floor out with a fire ext. Spooky but pretty effective. He also had a thing about welding a nut to a twisted off bolt and then unscrew it. also a valve that had lost the keepers and was hanging in the cylinder. He would get the valve back through the guide, pull it up and put a piece of tape on it to hold it up then had this tool he had made to replace a spark plug with, that would put air pressure into the cylinder to hold the valve in place while he put the valve seal back on with new keepers on it. Then take a compression check to see if there was more damage. Old timer stuff.
