At a prior job, I gave a two week notice. They asked what I was going to do. I said that I'm going to go to school to be a machinist. He said WHY, we put a guy on a machine and two weeks later he is a machinist.
The company that hired me also hired people off the street. In that regard, my old boss was correct. A few years later though, they would only hire graduates. That was about the time that they were converting over to CNC machines.
We had a pretty sharp guy that created our programs. But there was one program that put a drill about two inches deep at about 200 inches per minute. It took him awhile to find the code that was causing that misdeed. Those really get your attention.
