I am signed up a Lake County College for CNC machinist class ,Problem is I have a sign painting art class in Feb that conflicts with the CNC sched. I have to wait until Feb to start CNC. This resolves the conflict. I have a 300 dollar huge Bridgeport I have no idea how to run . I could also get a CNC job after this .

The CNC class will make you money, lots of employment opportunities.

Learning the Bridgeport will make you a machinist, make you think and problem solve!

That's a good price for the Bridgeport. I have a import mill, that does the job, but a good US made would be better. At my factory job years ago I would hang around the Machine shop. I learned a lot from the old machinists. Just watching, and asking questions. Working on my old equipment. I use my mill, and lathe a lot. Stan

Living in SETX with all the major refineries in the immediate area ( Beaumont-Houston) I see many signs at the machine shopsNow Hiring CNC Operators. Id say youre holding a good hand. Wingnut

At a prior job, I gave a two week notice. They asked what I was going to do. I said that I'm going to go to school to be a machinist. He said WHY, we put a guy on a machine and two weeks later he is a machinist.

The company that hired me also hired people off the street. In that regard, my old boss was correct. A few years later though, they would only hire graduates. That was about the time that they were converting over to CNC machines.

We had a pretty sharp guy that created our programs. But there was one program that put a drill about two inches deep at about 200 inches per minute. It took him awhile to find the code that was causing that misdeed. Those really get your attention.
