Installing a heater hose manual coolant control valve isn't very difficult. Either drain coolant below valve installation site or gently squeeze hoses together with vice grip pliers & cut hose/install manual valve then check/add coolant.
Location of valve isn't important as any location of manual valve will stop water flow path through heater core.
