Most of the John Deere maximerge planting units I have worked on have the roll pin holding the gauge wheel bearing in the gauge wheel arm. I have converted two planters over to the bolt on gauge wheel. Started work on another John Deere planter with the bearing that has a groove in the shaft that a set screw set in and holds the bearing in the gauge wheel arm. I have not worked on the set screw type before. What I noticed immediately is that all of the short little stubs that stick out of the bearing wobble in the gauge wheel arm. They are loose. I never had that with the original roll pin type. Is the gauge wheel arm or the shaft on the bearing worn out or is that the way they are? The actual bearings seem good yet - the problem just lies in where the bearing attaches to the arm. I don't know if sleeve locker would help take up the slack? Hate to replace them as the other end that attaches to the planting unit is the updated quick adjust style. Appreciate any advice.
