Electric starters are an option on many push mowers and work well. They do add some weight though. Simply holding onto the handle of the pull cord and pushing the mower ahead to start it works too, especially down hill on a smooth driveway.

The area to be mowed is important with a battery powered mower. If it is a large lawn it may be time to hire someone to mow it for her, that may not be too far in the future anyway. Is your mom sixty or eighty and how big is the lawn?
