A complete pony engine overhaul kit is available from H & J Machining in ND for about $1700. Add in the labor and you are well over $2000 to do it right. So, a good running pony engine is worth about $1200 in our area. There are two types of four cylinder pony engines. The ones used in JD 70s and Early JD 720s, and improved pony engines used in late 720s and 730s. The improved ones have a brass serial tag on the engine block. The used pony engines that are available came from tractors converted to electric start and have a high probability of having had problemsthus their removal/replacement.
