If the seal is marked for a rotation direction that does not match your application I would not use it. Some seals have the grooves that are big enough to see, others have tiny grooves like a fine thread that runs across the whole lip, that cannot be easily seen.
Even with OEM parts, I have seen such things get messed up, when purchasing goes looking for a new supplier and no one takes time to look at the original print for the part.
