Thanks for the heads-up on the outcome. A colleague of mine asked me to help diagnose lifter noise in his 1500 PU. It sure sounded like irregular lifter noise like randomly collapsing lifters. We stopped and I opened the hood. I pulled the dipstick and wiped it off. stabbed it back in, and pulled it out dry as a bone. He had a quart behind the seat. Put it in, dry as a bone. second quart got it to the add mark. With no more oil in the cab, he started it. In 10 seconds the clattering stopped. I suggested he fix the idiot light, and possibly put in a gauge. It took him a week to discuss the issue. He was absolutely sure the truck used no oil. He sold it out of state one week later! Jim
