I rolled the 3 X bar stock around a section of natural gas line pipe. I bolted it to the pipe and had the wife use the forks on the tractor to roll the pipe and bend the bar stock into a circle. It would have been a tough job to do it by hand. I then welded it to the bottom of the cutter.
I bush hogged 5 acers Tuesday with the new deck ring attached and it was GREAT. I accidentally hit a few rocks and large chunks of downed tree limbs on accident, and all went very well. The deck ring took the brunt of the deflection force and my welds held up great and it never dented the cutter at all. The cutter distributed the cuttings a little more evenly, but it was not too bad to windrow the cuttings to start with.
The deck ring mod has now made this cutter a keeper. If I ever have to get another bush hog it will definitely come with a deck ring or one will be installed before its first use.
