My experience is only with JD having owned a 446, 458, 459 S.S. To take a dry hay baler closer to wet(baleage) baler you can add what they call a high moisture kit. Both my 446 and 458 had it. It is nothing more than a scraper and a different belt staggering roll 13. 90% of the 10,000 bales on the 458 were custom baleage and string tied. It works but a true S.S. is better.
459 S.S. has an auger to remove any buildup from inside the belts. Very important in the baleage world. Has additional scrapers and gate roller is different. 14,000 bales on the 459 and use only net. On the 7,8,9 series if somebody says net doesn't work for silage their system is not adjusted correctly.
