I could get my first Border Collie to howl by howling a bit myself. He could put out some really long, mournful wails. One time in the pickup the traffic was flat out stopped on the freeway for about 15 minutes. HOT summer day. My PU windows - including the back slider were wide open. I started howling and he joined in. People all around us started cheering us on, stepping out of their cars to wave, giving thumbs up, some even howling themselves. I guess dog and I were expressing the frustration felt by everyone at that moment. It defused a lot of tension and made people laugh instead of grinding their teeth in frustration. Made for a happy experience despite the wretched traffic jam.
