Animals going for a ride

Dad had a dog who liked to ride on the hood of his AC Model M Crawler. Dad attached a carpet to keep the dog from sliding around. Another time Dad
was delivering a load of hay. When he got to his destination our cat was on top of the load. Dad said he thought he herd a cat. A feed
store owner had a dog who rode on the hay bales when he delivered hay. The dog would lean when the the truck rounded a corner. I am sure some of
you have riding animals. Stan

My Shih Tzu will ride on my mower, tractors, motor cycle, in my pickup, dump truck and in a small 4 seat airplane with me. If she hears something start up she is not happy unless she gets to ride. My son came over one day to visit, I was on my Ford 3000 out back. He opened the back door of the house to let my Shih Tzu out and play. She ran right past him and ran to me on the tractor. I stopped and picked her up. He thought that was really cool.

Our driveway was on a turn, not a curve, but a turn where one township road east and west met the other township road north and south. There were two brothers that farmed in the neighborhood and traveled with equipment between farms around this turn. You could hear them coming down the hill toward the corner with the dog barking. It was a mutt that looked crossed up with maybe a lab and collie with a shot of mustard and a half scoop of ground feed mixed in. That dog could surf anything. Hay racks were simple, top of baler was easy, the plow beam was a challenge, and the disk or harrow frames were world class. Those guys never gave that dog a break on that corner and I never saw that dog fail.

We had a Bichon that would go crazy if he heard the Polaris atv start. He would ride between your legs with front feet on the cross bar of the handle bars. Didn't do it for the Yamaha, only the Polaris.

I had a Boston Terrier (he died of old age two years ago) This dog would ride anything for how ever long it took & in any kind of weather. He had rode tractors, cars, boats, airplanes, combines, Polaris rangers, snow mobiles, wheel barrows, skate boards & even swung in a swing . I had him in every state but 4 of the New England states & every province & territory west of Toronto. There isn't hardly a day goes by that I don't think of that dog. He was born in Florida the day hurricane Ivan hit Florida so I named him Ivan.

I had a small Collie that would ride behind me on a Honda Big Red. One day I was riding over a field that had been disced with a very heavy tractor and disc. I hit a big rock and we were both thrown from the ATV with the ATV resting on its top with the wheels showing in the air. The dog turned his head to the side to get a better look and did not look to be upset, but confused

All our dogs would ride on anything that moved. They all liked the sidecar pretty well.My friend that lived here in a camper for a few years had a funny little dog.He went off with his owner all day,but at night he wanted nothing to do with him.He wanted to be in the house with us,warm or cool, and with our 3 dogs. Then we lost two of them a week apart, and found our cat dead on the lawn a week after that. His dog used to sit on the platform of the excavator whenever his owner ran it.That dog sat on the back steps and watched me bury the first dog, then watched me bury the second, then he watched me bury the cat. After that whenever that excavator started that little dog would drop down on his belly and slowly crawl off to hide. That dog was no dummy,he watched me bury three of his friends and thought he might be next.

Last dog I had loved to ride in the truck with me.

When she was a pup I had an old Datsun work truck. It was rough riding basic wheels. She was always up for a ride!

She would sit in the seat beside me and watch the road. She knew to brace and lean with the curves. Got to watching her and she actually did anticipate what was about to happen and start getting in position to lean!

When the movie Second Hand Lions came out, Don Walser got some air time on the radio. Anyone familiar with him knows his music often contains a bit of yodeling. For some reason she would key on the sound and start howling! Of course I would join in and we would make quite a game of it! LOL

We had an army surplus jeep back in the 50's. The front window would fold down on the hood of the jeep. Dog rode on the hood. Happy Hood ornament.

I could get my first Border Collie to howl by howling a bit myself. He could put out some really long, mournful wails.
One time in the pickup the traffic was flat out stopped on the freeway for about 15 minutes.
HOT summer day. My PU windows - including the back slider were wide open.
I started howling and he joined in.
People all around us started cheering us on, stepping out of their cars to wave, giving thumbs up, some even howling themselves.
I guess dog and I were expressing the frustration felt by everyone at that moment.
It defused a lot of tension and made people laugh instead of grinding their teeth in frustration.
Made for a happy experience despite the wretched traffic jam.

Snakes in bales were about the only riders out side the cab on our farm. The mice confined them selves to the cab as well. Jim

I have four dogs that ride with me in the cab of the 95 Dodge.

April on the passenger floor, Charlie sits by the passenger window, Tailer sits in the middle, and Sugar lays in my lap.

We had a Basset Hound that loved the front seat of the boat. She hated it when I would sneak off without her but she got in the way running lines. joe

every dog I have got since moving out here have liked to ride in the pickups.
