I have a 40 year old Yanmar 240D (D as in diesel). A LOT of oil seems to be coming out the blow-by tube, enough that if the tractors is running and stays in one spot for more than a minute or two, there's an oily patch on the ground. I only use it perhaps 20 - 25 hours per year, which means that it's probably a lot cheaper to keep adding oil than to solve the oil loss problem.
I'm looking for advice on what engine oil to use. Really thick oil might reduce oil loss, but the engine might not run all that well!
Any suggestions on a compromise oil that would perhaps reduce oil loss but not cause engine damage or reduce engine performance?
I assume I should be using oil formulated for diesel engines (?)
