What I saw they used looked more like a coarse powder, and would go into a valve stem easily. It seemed rather pricey for the amount they put in and would cause trouble with the core being stuck so it would lose air at a faster rate than otherwise. It didn't bother if the stem was on top so the air going in could dislodge them and blow out the stem. This was on semi tires so the stem is kind of sideways. I do my own tire work so never bother with balancing nor other junk in tires. I have heard that 3 golf balls will work like the beads. Don't know if it is just a wives tale or what.
