All common rail diesels can have trouble if they get crap into them. Don't skip basic troubleshooting though, common rails are still very vulnerable to normal diesel power loss issues, IE clogged filters and air leaks in the suction side of the system.
I have a 6.7 cummins, a single bad tank of fuel in 2016 took 10,000 L of fuel and 600$ of new filters to finally stop having power loss issues. The filters always looked fine but change them and inlet pressure to the common rail pump came back up and it worked good again until the next clog.
