2 sides to that story. HF and others provide tools at an affordable cost that US companies won't or can't do. I have a HF 3 jaw hydraulic gear puller. I think I paid $85 or so bucks for it. A US made tool would have been 10X that much, which is way, way beyond what I could possibly justify. It's a complicated ball of worms. We need products that US concerns won't make at an affordable price because they'd lose $$$ that they need to stay in business and pay the outrageous costs they have to contend with here. Why does it cost so much here? Taxes, taxes, taxes, regulations, healthcare, union demands, labor costs, taxes, regulations, etc. In China the gov't owns or controls the means of production, they don't cut their own throat. There are no unrealistic labor costs there, or environmental costs. In short, they compete better than we do and they don't pretend to give a crap about CO2, trees, the welfare class, etc.
It's going to stay like this, and get worse, until we make some radical changes.
