I put EI in a Ford 3000 and can vouch that it worked perfectly for a dozen years and the distributor cap never had to come off in that time. As for being stuck in the field if ei fails that is not the case. I carried a set of points and condenser in a zip lock bag stashed behind the dash for a long time - just in case. It takes as long to pull the ei out and stick the points in as it does to change those parts. Another advantage to EI is it is not very particular about the air gap between the magnet and the the sensor. So you can have substantial wear in your distributor bushings and it will work fine where points will not.
