Overfilling oil will not raise pressure.
Fill it to the dipstick level. If it's overfull, drain some out, don't guess.
What are you calling high, pegged gauge? Or still in the normal? If the gauge is pegging, there is a problem with the relief valve in the pump, or a faulty gauge.
It is normal for one to drop pressure as the oil warms.
If this is a gas engine, as long as there is some pressure at warm idle it is good. They are not known for having high oil pressure. General rule, 10 PSI per 1000 RPM is safe.
What most of us run is 15w-40 diesel oil. It will lessen the high cold readings, and give easier cold starts because it is multi grade.
