I dare say that consumer acceptance will be the major player in the success or failure of EVs.
For what it is worth...
I do not see EVs becoming the dominant form of vehicle usage in the near future. I see that they will become a larger portion of the vehicles on the road, but not to the exclusion of gasoline powered vehicles. Whether you agree or not, the gasoline powered vehicle is the gold standard to which all competitors aspire to emulate.
Whatever becomes of the power grid in terms of supplying is still an unknown. Without a doubt, there will be increased demand for electricity. Without a doubt, the government will be looking for new ways to fund the highway system with the loss of revenue from road fuel taxes. Already there are states looking to move from fuel taxes to usage taxes.
Without a doubt, change is in the air - but it will not be all at once or complete. That you can be sure of!
