Looks to me like your blade already has extensions. Seems to me that a longer blade at an angle (45 for instance) would be of similar width as your blade is now at a 90 degree angle and would be moving about the same width of snow/dirt. I'd think that there would be less stress than your blade at a 90 because the snow/dirt will be sliding off instead of being carried along.
I have a ford blade that has a similar mount that is very heavy. Finally got it unfrozen and apart.
