Don't know about a 1086, but on our 3088, 986, 695, and even the old 544 (and a 464 I have worked on), if this is the filter behind the plate/cap down on the side of transmission there should be a bypass/relief filter stuck in the outside end of the paper filter (right under plate you take off). This metal screen filter thing gets cleaned with a bit of gas, dried/wiped off, then I dunk it in hydraulic oil before putting back in new paper filter and installed. Make sure the o-ring under the plate doesn't get pinched! Hydraulics won't work if it does. Don't ask how I know this. Paul
