Update I pulled filter and drained oil , it was plug majorly and oil had black gunk like dirt build up. My question is where the filter goes their is a tin metal plate that looks like it has an oil ring behind it should I try and pull that out and replace seal since Im already this far into draining tractor or can someone fill me in on this. The manual didnt show this plate.

On the 86 series that plate does not have an o ring behind it . The plate fits pretty snug and you don't normally take it out when changing filter. The older tractors, like 706 had a o ring and the plate was much looser.

Now, if you should ever work on the pump you will need to pull that plate out and to install the short suction tube between filter cavity and pump after pump is installed. There is also a seal the tube goes through that needs to fit snug on tube to keep air out.

Don't know about a 1086, but on our 3088, 986, 695, and even the old 544 (and a 464 I have worked on), if this is the filter behind the plate/cap down on the side of transmission there should be a bypass/relief filter stuck in the outside end of the paper filter (right under plate you take off). This metal screen filter thing gets cleaned with a bit of gas, dried/wiped off, then I dunk it in hydraulic oil before putting back in new paper filter and installed. Make sure the o-ring under the plate doesn't get pinched! Hydraulics won't work if it does. Don't ask how I know this.

If your talking about the tincup behind the filter then IF that O/Ring is still soft just put it back in and stuff the filter in , replace the O/Ring on the outside cover and make sure that the groove is clean , add a light amount of either grease or Hud. oil to that cap and place it on ..
