Don't know about the brain trust comment but we are on our 2nd one and have been very pleased. Wanted the zero turn but didn't think my wife could manage the steering levers. With the steering wheel actually controlling the front wheels it is very stable on side slopes. We did have trouble with the rods going back to the hydrostat units on the first one after a couple years and rather than wait for parts we traded for a new one. Cub Cadet strengthened the rods on the newer models and it also has a much better seat and a fuel injected engine. The new one also has a fabricated welded deck (50 cut) instead of the pressed steel deck.
