For the brain trust, Cub Cadet z force sx48 lawn mower with steering wheel, give me
the good or bad of this machine or any other info. I am thinking of buying one. Thank
you for your time. Neil

Don't know about the brain trust comment but we are on our 2nd one and have been very pleased. Wanted the zero turn but didn't think my wife could manage the steering levers. With the steering wheel actually controlling the front wheels it is very stable on side slopes. We did have trouble with the rods going back to the hydrostat units on the first one after a couple years and rather than wait for parts we traded for a new one. Cub Cadet strengthened the rods on the newer models and it also has a much better seat and a fuel injected engine. The new one also has a fabricated welded deck (50 cut) instead of the pressed steel deck.

I don't have cub but I do have a Duetz-Allis (simplicity) zero turn front deck with a steering wheel. It works just fine only different, I also have a Gravely with sticks. The Gravely is a little bigger and faster and newer but the old Duetz does a better job and always is used on the lawn by the house.

A friend of mine has a Cadet hydro drive with a steering wheel. It has a pedal you push on to make it go. the harder you push the faster it goes. If you change directions to fast ( Forward to reverse). it throws the hydro belt.

I have an extremely steep yard around my house. House is built into a hill. Have a 10 foot ceiling on the lower level and you still have to walk down a few steps from the deck to get to the yard. That is how steep it is. But it makes for beautiful homes and interesting landscapes. The first year we lived here I had a Cub Cadet zero turn with the two levers. No way could I mow anywhere close to crossways. Gravity would just take over. The hydro's on each wheel would hold, but the wheels would loose traction and slide until it was pointing straight down hill. To mow a steep section you just had to aim the mower from the top of the slope. I said enough was enough and started researching the Cub Cadet zero turn with the steering wheel. Decided I would demo one from the dealer. Worked great. Bought it. I finally could mow anywhere I wanted to go. I can mow across some pretty steep slopes. Also like it because it does have a low center of gravity and a wide wheel base. Have mowed with it now for two years with no problems what so ever. I think our lot is just short of 3/4 acre minus the house. I highly recommend the Cub Cadet zero turn with the steering wheel.

We have a 60" Cub Cadet zero turn with the steering wheel also. Bought it used a couple years ago. I was always told how much it would cut my mowing time, and they were right!
Was having a little trouble for a while last fall. It didn't always want to pull itself uphill the way it should. Took it to my local shop--he replaced a belt and freed up some linkages that were sticking. This was right at the end of the season, so haven't mowed with it yet since it's been fixed. Seems to work good driving it around the yard though.
I'd definitely get another one.
