I put a different motor in my 88, it came with a 12 volt generator. I fired it up this afternoon for the first time. Amp guage was showing discharge instead of charge. I polarized the generator and when I started it again, the needle showed discharge for a couple of seconds and then went to charging. I shut it off and the needle went to discharge. I unhooked the battery and hooked it back up and the needle was on 0. I then was hooking up the radiator and when my hand bumped the generator case, it was quite warm to the touch. I tried to start it but it would barely turn over. I disconnected the ground cable and it sparked when I took it off. Now what should I do?? This is with the motor shut off This is running Took the cover off of the voltage regulator to see what it looks like. Where do I go from here??
