Back in the 70's I worked on drilling rigs in Appalachia drilling for natural gas. We used compressed air instead of mud. Our typical rig had a 12v92 TA on the drawworks, four 750 cfm Joy air compressors with 6v72's, feeding into an air booster pump that had two 6-71's mounted side by side about 4 apart, both feeding into a single clutch assembly going into the air booster end. Each engine was the mirror opposite of the other, and both shared the same radiator. When drilling, all of the air compressors and booster were running flat out, probably averaged about 22 hours per day at full throttle. All of these motors were set up such that all were within 50' of each other And my wife wonders why my hearing is poor.
