The large manufacturers have been pushing show involvement towards the dealers for years. While it is true that there are very few sales generated from shows, they are still an important customer relations tool. Now corporate management has a hard time justifying this as the data is only collected on direct sales numbers. And companies want to manage by data these days. It comes down to companies that truly understand their customers and want to cater to them.
PS I get to participate in ag trade shows for work. The sales guys invariably think they are a waste of time and a headache. Some days its hard to see the big picture.
