The big three are out

Wisconsin has its annual Farm Technology Days similar to Farm Progress Days in many states. In fact it used to be called Farm Progress Days. Last year it was postponed because of the virus and is slated to
be held this year. I was told by one of the committee members that the three big tractor manufactures are pulling out and there will not be field demos. I was told that future shows will cater to the small
hobbies/part timers. Times are sure changing.

that's not surprising. There's been talk of changing format or eliminating the show for several years now. Attendance has been poor, exhibitors feel that make few new contacts, etc.

The Dairy Expo in Madison has a nice farm equipment show, but no field demonstrations naturally. Seems to me that while field demonstrations are a interesting attraction, most of the people that are going to purchase the equipment that is being demonstrated, are already familiar with the equipment. And just a bunch of tire kickers and time wasters want to try out the equipment.

Same feeling about shows and demo's here in the East. The true buyers are connected to get to see the equipment they desire get demo'd in a number of different manners.

The large manufacturers have been pushing show involvement towards the dealers for years. While it is true that there are very few sales generated from shows, they are still an important customer relations tool. Now corporate management has a hard time justifying this as the data is only collected on direct sales numbers. And companies want to manage by data these days. It comes down to companies that truly understand their customers and want to cater to them.

PS I get to participate in ag trade shows for work. The sales guys invariably think they are a waste of time and a headache. Some days its hard to see the big picture.

That has happened to ag shows here in Minnesota for some long time now.

State fair was huge machinery show in the 60s. At some point I would guess the 80s the state fair turned to an urban metro event and machinery hill disappeared entirely.

FarmFest is the State Farm show, but the corporates pulled out of that too, its left to local dealers to put in machinery for the most part.

Not just the farming world but all conventions of any industry are way down. The venues have over priced them selves. Fewer companies with consolidation, equals less people attending. and a host of other reasons that I won't pretend to understand.
