Once upon a time my neighbor had me listen to his car. I 'think' it was a Ford or a Mercury full size. But he had had a few people listen to it and every one agreed that it was the power steering pump making the noise. I offered to replace or even help him, but he got it done himself. Not real easy. The new pump made the same noise. Told him it was still a bad 'new' pump. He replaced it again. Still made the same noise: sounded like power steering pump! Well he decided to replace the serpentine belt. And that was the cure! And the belt did not look bad, but that fixed it- no more noise. Mark.
