I'm hearing whining in the power steering came on the last 3 days it's full of oil and everything works fine is there a filter in the system?

No filter, is this cold weather related? When it was -26 here on Monday the PS pumps would howl something awful when first started.

Not only will cold make them whine, but they will do it when going bad as well. However, they will usually make noise for years befor getting bad enough to need replacement.

Common problem.

It may be cold related, but it may not.

Replacing the pump is the solution, or let it whine. It will go for years without harm.

If you replace the pump, be prepared to go through several before you get a good one.

I would try a Motrorcraft rebuilt first, they seem to be better than most, still a gamble.

Once upon a time my neighbor had me listen to his car. I 'think' it was a Ford or a Mercury full size. But he had had a few people listen to it and every one agreed that it was the power steering pump making the noise. I offered to replace or even help him, but he got it done himself. Not real easy. The new pump made the same noise. Told him it was still a bad 'new' pump. He replaced it again. Still made the same noise: sounded like power steering pump! Well he decided to replace the serpentine belt. And that was the cure! And the belt did not look bad, but that fixed it- no more noise. Mark.

Yes, there is a filter screen inside the remote reservoir, and can cause a whine when dirty. Typically replacing the reservoir fixes it. Fords and Chryslers are really bad about this.

My 05 Ranger was whining when I got it in 2016 with 100,000 miles on it. PS worked perfect. I changed the fluid and added conditioner. 47,000 miles later, it is still whining and still working perfectly.

I had an older model F150 that would whine. The serpentine belt was starting to break down and rubber was trapped in the pulley grooves. A new belt and wire brushing all the pulleys fixed it.
