Penn State Ag did a study back when. Seems millions of seeds are in the ground and only need a flash of sunlight to germinate. They had a tent cover over their cultivators and got a lot less weeds after cultivation "in the dark". By dumb luck, I used to cultivate corn after dark ,since I baled hay all day, and had clean corn.
