This may not be significant, but my wife and I lived in Fond du Lac from Jan 1, 2010 until Labor Day 2011. It was a good job while it lasted and we really enjoyed living there, despite the cold weather and heavy snow. I think Winnebago ice got 24 or 25 inches thick both of those winters. The southern end of the lake was covered with fishing shacks. I didn’t have the nerve to venture out onto the ice. I did see pictures of a lot of big sturgeon taken during the season. One I remember was laying on the tailgate of a pickup truck with the head and tail hanging off the sides.
