Long post. Sorry. Where can we buy 14.9-28 R4s? My 85 yo tractor pal Kenny has a very nice Ford 545 loader tractor. It has 16.9-24 R4s on it now. The wheels are the 2 piece center/looped rim type. See photos. He wants to put chains on it for better winter traction but not enough room between the tire and loader frame for chains. If we move the tires out it's too wide to haul on my trailer - which we do fairly often. I have a good pair of 13x28 rims/centers that I might let him wrangle me out of. That size would give him clearance for chains and still fit on my trailer. However, he insists he needs R4s on that tractor. Says a loader tractor will tear the lugs off of an R1. I argued that but he's a stubborn old Norwegian and gets to be wrong or right as he pleases. 14.9 24s will NOT do either.
Local tire shop we buy from can't find R4s in 14.9-28. Does anyone have a source for that size? Is there another type of tire that will satisfy him? 12 ply something? Radial?
PS, It behooves me to help him cause I use the tractor more than he does.

While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point
