I have a McCormack Deering mower and it works okay. Just don't go to slow as horses walked faster than most people think. When I a boy I mowed with a team and they moved right along. You had to rest them quite often as a mower hung quite heavy on them. My mower has the gear box behind the axle so it is a bit lighter than some on the tongue. Also make sure the tongue is about the same height as it would be hooked to a team of horses. That's important to make it cut good. Good Luck and have fun.
