I have one that I could connect to a tablet PC which then gave me a much bigger screen to see. One mistake I made was getting one with only a 6 foot cable as sometimes it would be nice to be able to snake it farther and still see. The other mistake (and it wasn't really a mistake as it was the best available at the time) was to get one with a 1.3 megapixel camera. Newer ones can be had with a 5 megapixel camera which would get you a much better picture.
Mine did pay for itself when I dropped a plumbing fitting down inside a wall behind the shower. With that camera and a piece of stiff wire to guide it, I was able to fish the fitting out and thus avoid the 15 mile each way to town for a new one while helpers would be just sitting around waiting.
