I really doubt that it will be getting better for you in the near future. I would just bite the bullet and put in a NG standby generator with automatic transfer switch if me, but do not know how long you are planning to stay there. If putting in one, put in a 20KW, it is the biggest of the commodity residential generators and only a few hundred more than smaller units.
