Stan, it's almost always a malfunction of the ice maker itself.
As long as you know the water supply is still on, and the freezer is getting cold as it should, and there is not a problem with ice build up, it's a reasonable assumption a new ice maker will fix it.
On the popular models, there are factory units, and after market units. After market are about 1/2 the price but have a bad reputation for short life.
You can order the ice maker by a part number under the plastic cover, or by the refrigerator model number.
GE makes a lot of different models, see if this looks like yours. If not look around Youtube until you find your type ice maker, there are only about 3 or 4 different makes.
